This could be one of the greatest advantages of LAD membership and one that you have been completely unaware of until now. As a member of the LAD, you are eligible to apply on an individual basis for many of the same life, health, disability and dental insurance plans that are available to all Texas Attorneys through the State Bar of Texas Insurance Trust. While coverage can be issued to you on an individual basis, the rate applicable to you as an insured through the Trust is a competitive group rate paid by all insured members in the same age category. Once coverage has been issued to you and your family members, the only requirements for maintaining the coverage are continuing your LAD membership in good standing and the timely payment of premiums as they come due.

It is important to note that all members of the LAD are entitled to apply for coverage based upon membership in the Division rather than their association with a law firm. This should be especially significant to you because it means that you are not precluded from obtaining coverage simply because the law firm may not be a current participant in the Trust. In addition, the Trust plans are completely portable and as such can be retained by you even in the event that you become associated with a different law firm.

The Trust staff serves as the liaison between each of the insureds and the insurance company in much the same manner as an employee benefits manager serves the employees of a large employer. Each employee of the Trust is always available to assist you with any questions or problems you may have with your insurance coverage.

The Trust has a long term commitment to its insureds and in fact has been serving the life and health insurance needs of Texas attorneys and their employees for nearly 50 years. It has an experienced staff in Austin to handle your account from the time of application to the payment of claims. The Trust is interested in providing coverage not only to you, but to each of your eligible dependents and continues coverage on each eligible surviving dependent in the event you predecease them.

Simply put, membership in the LAD could be instrumental in alleviating your concerns about locating a stable and viable health insurance plan for yourself and your family members. If you are interested in receiving information on any of the plans available to you as a member of the LAD, contact the State Bar of Texas Insurance Trust in Austin at (512) 479-0941 or 1-800-460-7248.
