SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is proud to recognize the legal assistants of Texas and to designate every October 23 as Texas Legal Assistants Day; and

WHEREAS, Created on October 23, 1981, the Legal Assistants Division of the State Bar of Texas strives to foster high standards of conduct, professional ethics, and responsibility through continuing legal education cooperation with the state bar; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Legal Assistants Division are diversely employed by law firms, public and private corporations, businesses, institutions, and local, state, and national government agencies; and

WHEREAS, The Legal Assistants Division is committed to achieving more economical and improved legal services throughout the state by focusing on benefits to its members and the paralegal profession through developing opportunities, incentives, and recognition for legal education; and

WHEREAS, Legal Assistants work under the direction of an attorney and require sufficient knowledge of legal concepts to perform specifically delegated legal work that would otherwise be performed by the attorney; and

WHEREAS, The legal assistants of the State of Texas are tremendous assets to their communities and contribute substantially to the quality and proficiency of legal services throughout the state; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas hereby commend the legal assistants of Texas for their outstanding work and the Legal Assistants Division of the State Bar of Texas for its 11 years of dedication to improving legal services for the people of Texas and hereby declare October 23 as Texas Legal Assistants Day; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the Legal Assistants Division of the State Bar of Texas as a token of high regard from the Texas Legislature.
