editor’s Note

by Rhonda J. Brashears

The end of summer is here and with it come many changes in our routine. The kids are back in school, and work seems to settle in with summer vacations out of the way. This fall will bring a change in the way of exempt to non-exempt status under the newly revised Fair Labor Standards Act. For others, this is just a reinforcement of issues that they may have been dealing with for sometime. These changes were discussed at length in the Summer 2004 issue of the Texas Paralegal Journal. If you missed that article, you will want to go back and take a look.

This issue also includes several upcoming and exciting things that are taking place for LAD members. Be sure to review the Announcements (page 28) for information about events going on around the State and to look at the details regarding “LAD Goes to London.” What a neat experience it would be to take a trip to London with all your favorite colleagues. You will also find an overview of the 2004 Annual Meeting which took place in San Antonio. I have to say, from experience, that the key note speaker, Judge Lora Livingston, was one of the best Annual Meeting Luncheon speeches I have ever heard.

I have picked up several new committee members. Look at the listing of those committee members and if you know them thank them for helping us continue to put a quality magazine together as well as updating and maintaining of a fabulous web site.
As always, if you see a great article you would like to share through the Texas Paralegal Journal, just send me the information. I will finding a place for it in our magazine.
