PARALEGAL DIVISION, STATE BAR OF TEXAS NOTICE OF BYLAWS AMENDMENT
The Active Members of the Paralegal Division are, hereby, given
notice of a bylaws amendment election to be held Spring 2008.
Below are proposed bylaw amendments that will be placed on the
ballot.
Effective date of bylaw, if approved by the membership of the
Paralegal Division, will be the date it is approved by the State Bar
of Texas Board of Directors.
PURPOSE FOR PROPOSED REVISIONS TO THE BYLAWS:
- Move Director Elections earlier in Spring.
- Allow current Active Members to vote in each Election.
- Allow an election to be held effectively, efficiently and
ethically.
- Keep an appropriate notice period, in accordance with the
Division’s standards.

Elections of Directors. The Election Committee shall cause a
Notice of Election of Directors to be prepared and delivered to
the Publications Committee Chair. The Publications Committee
Chair shall receive the Notice of Election of Directors no later
than 30 days prior to the Voter Registration Deadline Date.

DEFINITIONS
Active Members: that classification of membership defined in
Article II, Section 1(a) of the Bylaws and meeting the Criteria for
Active Membership as set forth in Rule I.B. of the Standing Rules.
An active member in good standing shall have all the privileges
and prerogatives of full membership, including voting, holding
office, and serving as the chair of any committee or subcommittee.
For the purpose of voting, nominating, holding office, and
serving as the chair of any committee or subcommittee, Freelance
Members are considered Active Members by the Division.
Definitions
Active Members: that classification of membership defined in
Article II, Section 1(a) of the Bylaws and meeting the Criteria for
Active Membership as set forth in Rule I.B. of the Standing Rules.

List of Registered Voters: an alphabetical List of Registered Voters
prepared by the Paralegal Division Coordinator on the Voter Registration

prepared by the Paralegal Division Coordinator pursuant to
Article IX, Section 3 of the Bylaws.
Nominating Period: the 30-day period beginning 15 days after the
Voter Registration Deadline Date and ending on the date nominating
petitions must be received by the Elections Subcommittees
in order for the nominating petitions to be valid.

ending on the date nominating petitions must be received by the
Elections Subcommittees in order for the nominating petitions to
be valid.
Registered Voter: (i) a person who is an Active Member or a
Freelance Member and (ii) a person whose active membership
status is reflected in the membership records of the Division on
the Voter Registration Deadline Date.
Registered Voter: a person who is an Active Member listed on the
official records of the Paralegal Division of the State Bar of Texas
no later than two weeks prior to the date of any election.
Voter Registration Deadline Date: (i) the deadline on which all
Active Members are eligible to become candidates for the office of
Director, nominate candidates for Director and/or vote in a particular
election, and (ii) 75 days prior to the Ballot Mailing Date
as shown in the timeline prepared by the President Elect.
